The Taumarunui Community Kokiri Trust delivers 18 core health and social support services; ranging from well child health and education services, GP Clinics, employment and housing programmes, acute mental health, and a residential facility for the elderly. We employ over 80 full-time staff and serve over 3000 clients, of which approximately 70% are Maori.
We are based in the small but beautiful rural community of Taumarunui, surrounded by rivers, native bush and snow-capped mountains. We are a whanau friendly organisation, with all services delivered from a kaupapa Maori philosophy built on a foundation of core kaupapa Maori values. We have a strong commitment to ongoing quality improvement with comprehensive professional development programmes. We maintain high standard accreditations with relevant agencies such as Healthcare Aotearoa and Telarc.
HISTORY
Taumarunui Community Kokiri Trust became a Maori Health Committee in 1989 as the result of a community meeting at Wharauroa Marae. Beginning with a small vision & hearing contract for local tamariki, the organisation has expanded to deliver 18 health and social support services. In 1996 we became a Charitable Trust. Current services include:
· Health and Disability Service – to assist whanau with health issues · Kaumatua Support – transport and assistance for Kaumatua · Tamariki Ora – a well child service · VHT’s – a child vision and hearing service · FLIC – a youth sexual health service + a cervical screening service · Mental Health Service – including tamariki / rangatahi needs assessment, community support, and adult needs assessment · Youth Worker – activities and support for youth · Ante-natal service – to ensure pepe gets the best start possible · OSCAR – out of school supervision · Tamariki Akoranga – early childhood centre · Drug and Alcohol Education – to ensure people are appropriately informed · Smoking Cessation – helping people to quit · Home Care Access Assistance – coordination of at home assistance for people with physical disabilities · Job Placement – finding people work · Low Deposit Rural Loans – assisting people to access finance for home purchases · Driver Licensing Support – assisting people to get their license · GP Clinic - committed to quality primary healthcare · Rest Home – quality care for the elderly · Garden Centre – work placement opportunities for long-term unemployed.
